To the One Who Made Me a Mother
A love letter to my miracle blessing.
Before you, I didn't know my heart had room like this.
I thought I understood love. I thought I knew what it felt like to want something so deeply it lived in your chest like a second heartbeat. But then you came, and you rearranged everything, gently, completely, the way only a miracle can.
There's no other word for it. You are a miracle. And I mean that in the truest, most worn-on-your-knees sense of the word.
It Started With Us
Before you existed, sweet girl, God was already working.
He started with your daddy and me.
There was a season in our marriage that I don't talk about much, because it was hard, and because it's ours, but the short version is this: we were broken in the way that makes people quit. The kind of broken that looks, from the outside, like it might just be the end of the story.
But God didn't let it be the end.
He reached into the wreckage of what we had and He rebuilt it, piece by piece, prayer by prayer, into something neither of us could have constructed on our own. He saved our marriage not because we deserved it, but because He had a plan that required us to still be standing together. Still choosing each other. Still a family.
We didn't know it then. We just knew we were grateful.
And then He showed us why.
The Waiting
You were prayed for long before you arrived, baby girl.
There were quiet mornings and hard nights when I didn't know if this dream would ever become real. For a long time, I didn't even let myself fully think about it. I didn't believe I could be a mama, so I kept the idea at arm's length, afraid to want something that felt too far out of reach for someone like me.
But God had other plans.
There were moments I held onto hope with both hands and moments it slipped through my fingers entirely. Your daddy and I, held together now by something stronger than ourselves, kept praying. Kept believing that if God had brought us back from what we'd been through, He wasn't finished writing our story yet.
He wasn't.
He was knitting you together. On purpose. With intention. With a specific plan that included me getting to be your mama and your daddy getting to be your dad, together, restored, whole.
I just couldn't see it yet.
But He could.
Being Chosen
Here's something I didn't expect about motherhood: the humility of it.
I didn't earn you. We didn't earn you. There is nothing we did that made us deserving of a gift like you. After everything, after the broken season, after the rebuilding, after the waiting, God looked at our little family and decided it was time to make it one bigger.
He didn't have to. That's the part that undoes me.
He could have let our story end in a hundred different places. He didn't. He saved a marriage that looked unsaveable, and then out of that saved, sanctified, put-back-together love, He gave us you.
I will spend every ordinary, messy, beautiful day of this life proving that was the greatest gift I have ever been given.
What You Made Me
You made me brave in ways I didn't know I needed.
Before you, I wasn't sure I had what it takes to be someone's whole world. You looked up at me and decided I did, and somehow, that made it true. You didn't just give me the title of mama. You gave me the courage to actually become her.
Thank you for that. I mean it every single day.
Thank you for making me brave enough to be called mama.
A Note to Every Mama Still Waiting
If you found this post in a quiet moment, maybe in the middle of your own waiting, or your own hard season in marriage, or both at once, I see you.
I know the ache of hoping for something your arms aren't holding yet. I know what it's like to wonder if the fractures in your family are too deep for healing. I have sat in both of those places, sometimes at the same time.
But here is what I know now: God is not afraid of broken things. He specializes in them.
He can save a marriage that looks like it's over. He can sustain hope through a waiting season that feels too long. And He can bring a miracle through the very love He restored, a miracle with a name, a laugh, a face that looks like answered prayer.
Hold on, mama. Keep praying. Your story isn't finished yet.
Because She's Worth Every Word
You are my miracle, baby girl. You always will be.
Every time I look at you, really look at you, past the tired and the laundry and the beautiful chaos of raising a little person, I see the whole story. I see every prayer. I see every hard night your daddy and I chose to stay. I see the faithfulness of a God who never once let go, even when we wanted to.
I see evidence that He listens.
I see you.
That's enough for a lifetime.
If this resonated with you, save it for a hard day. Share it with a mama who needs it. And if you have a miracle of your own, I'd love to hear their name in the comments.
